The Africities 8 Summit, UCLG Africa and the “Initiatives Climat” Association organized the “Climate Initiatives Awards 2018, with the awards taking place at the Africities 8 Summit in Marrakech.
The Climate Initiatives Trophies celebrate cities and territories that have implemented the most remarkable actions in the fight against climate change. Nine award nominees were shortlisted and prizewinners voted for by delegates at the Summit.
The Awards took place at the Africities Summit gala dinner on November 24th in front of a room full of delegates who loudly cheered and celebrated their accomplishments.
For the small towns category (less than 20,000 inhabitants): the winner is the Municipality of Ndiob (Senegal), for the implementation of its “green and resilient commune” project;
For the category of cities and territories of intermediate size (between 20,000 and 200,000 inhabitants), the winner is the City of Chefchaouen in Morocco, for the realization of its, “Energy Info Center.”
For the category of cities and large territories, the winner is the Tivaouane Departmental Council (Senegal) for the implementation of its project, “Preserving a sustainable agricultural environment.”
