SOU 14 - The challenges of territorial planning in Africa
PRESENTATION OF THE SESSION
For our territories in Africa, which are largely affected by the adverse effects of climate change, the new frameworks must be sufficiently appropriate to ensure sustainable development conditions and improve the well-being of populations, particularly those in rural areas, whose state of vulnerability is increasingly increasing.
With this in mind, local and regional authorities must familiarise themselves with the global agendas (Agenda 2030, the Paris Agreement, the New Urban Agenda) and 2063, and then take them into account in their development policies and strategies. This consideration can only be effective through prioritizing objectives in the light of local realities and integrating them into the territorial planning process.
The session will situate the issues of territorial planning in relation to the challenges to the implementation of the AU's global agendas (2030, Paris Agreement) and 2063 and will focus on the experiences of the different countries represented in this field. It will make it possible to identify the decisive elements to better address this issue and ensure the conditions for the sustainable development of territories in Africa.
