PRESENTATION OF THE SESSION

Cities around the world have become the scene of profound socio-economic and cultural changes, which have a direct impact on the way of life and the environment of the people who live there. Morocco, a country with a high urbanization rate (60%) faces the various challenges related to this urbanization, in terms of housing, governance, poverty alleviation, travel and mobility, access to basic services and facilities, etc. with a view to providing appropriate responses to the development needs of cities and housing, while placing the inhabitants at the heart of their concerns. The objectives of the session are:
  1. Present the Moroccan experience in terms of housing (slum clearance, requalification of disadvantaged neighbourhoods, rehabilitation of Habitat Threatening Ruin...);
  2. Present the city policy implemented by Morocco;
  3. Present the Moroccan experience in terms of building new cities and urban centres;
  4. Discuss these experiences, their outcomes, limitations and constraints and the related perspectives.
