PRESENTATION OF THE SESSION

Africa has the youngest population in the world. Youth in Africa constitutes more than 20% of the global youth population, numbering nearly 230 million. By 2030, it is predicted that the number of youths in Africa will have increased by 42%. African youth are key agents for the African Cities of today and tomorrow. If these young people are well-educated and healthy, they constitute a considerable work force to meet the continent's challenges in terms of sustainable development. The Youth Forum at the Africities Summit 2018 will facilitate a process that strengthens effective youth participation in the planning and implementation of the sustainable development goals at the local level. The youth will interact with Representatives of local authorities from across Africa to discuss about how young people can be involved and support the transition of Cities towards Smart Cities and the realization of the AGENDA 2030 and the 2063 African Union’s Agenda “ The Africa we Want”. The Youth Forum brings together young delegates from all over across Africa to exchange views, share experiences on different issues, detect common preoccupations and to develop realistic action plans to rebuild communities that meet the needs and aspirations of young people.
