PRESENTATION OF THE SESSION

The "Africa Sustainable Cities" programme aims, in the long term, at Agenda 2030 and, in the short term, it is part of the preparation of the Africa-France 2020 Summit for Sustainable Cities. USF's approach is based on several approaches: global, transversal, local, regional and partnership-based. The reflections and methods of intervention proposed by USF are grouped into 5 main regions of the African Union. USF's intervention is organised according to 3 major axes:
  • Working groups (exemplary studies)
  • Workshops (consultation and reflection)
  • Training sessions (capacity building)
USF's interventions aim to achieve:
  • a study on a city and its agglomeration by country (implementation of the 2030 agenda and location of the MDGs);
  • one pilot urban project per African Union region. So 5 pilot projects including the 1st urban project in PIKINE (West Africa Region). This project is in progress, the diagnosis and programming phases of the development orientations will be presented during this session.
