The African continent is now the region of the world that offers the best levels of economic growth in recent years. In addition, there are many business and development opportunities. At the same time, the African Union's Agenda 2063 gives direction to achieving a structural transformation of the continent that brings prosperity and benefits all its children. Populations living in communities are thus the first to be targeted. It is therefore important to have localized socio-economic information to better guide the policies to be implemented to improve their living conditions. The objectives of the session are:
  • Describe the situation of the supply of statistics production at the local level in African States;
  • Highlight the consequences of the absence or insufficiency of statistics at the level of local authorities in order to ensure a successful transition;
  • Propose recommendations to improve the current situation

The session will take place in three successive stages to ensure that both policy guidance and technical considerations related to the construction of statistical systems are better understood.

The three stages include (i) the introductory remarks of the mayor to be chosen by the UCLG Africa, (ii) the presentation of the communication on the local information system to prepare and implement the transition and (iii) the exchanges and discussions.
